Heading into June: The Garden in Full Swing

June is here, and with it comes a sense of energy and growth that’s hard to ignore. The garden has found its rhythm—flowers are blooming, vegetables are pushing forward, and the long light-filled days make everything feel more alive.

May often lays the groundwork: warming the soil, encouraging growth, and giving plants the confidence to stretch. By the time we reach June, there’s a noticeable shift—plants grow quickly, borders fill out, and the garden begins to feel established.

This is a month of abundance, but also a time to stay engaged with what’s happening in your space.

🌼 Keep Things Moving

To make the most of the momentum, keep up with regular tasks. Deadheading flowers will encourage more blooms, and consistent watering—especially for containers—is essential. Feeding your plants now will support continued growth and flowering as we move into summer. Regular lawn cutting is important - grass loves to be cut! Remember only take off a third of the overall growth each time.

🍓 Harvest Mindfully

If you planted herbs, soft fruit or early crops, this might be the first moment of harvest. Lettuce, salad leaves, strawberries, and peas may be ready—pick them regularly to encourage more to come.

This is also a good time to assess what's growing well and what might need adjusting—whether it’s spacing, support, or repositioning in the months to come.

🌱 Keep Sowing

It’s not too late to sow. Fast-growing crops like salad leaves, radishes, and beetroot can still be started now, giving you a second wave of produce later in summer.

Biennials such as foxgloves, honesty, and wallflowers can also be sown now for flowering next year—something to look forward to when the seasons turn again.

🐝 Create Space for Wildlife

June is a high point for pollinators, and your garden can support them in simple ways. Leave a shallow dish of water out, avoid excessive tidying, and let a patch of grass or wildflowers grow freely.

These small decisions help create a garden that feels part of the wider ecosystem, and the benefits are mutual—pollinators support your crops and flowering plants in return.

🌞 Take Time to Enjoy It

It’s easy to keep working—there’s always something to do—but gardens are for living in, not just maintaining. Take a moment to step back and appreciate what you’ve created. Sit outside, listen to the birds, watch the light shift across the garden in the evening.

This is your space. You’ve nurtured it into life—now let it nurture you.
